1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

LaCie drives are no stranger to this blog. They are synonymous with quality. They perform flawlessly, yet aren’t big, ugly boxes like many other external drives. They are usually sleek, in fit and finish.

The 1 TB LaCie Hard Drive, Design by Neil Poulton is no different. It’s sleek and quiet. It has a silent, fanless operation. A blue LED strip on its bottom creates a futuristic glow. The piano black design fits in perfectly in any decor, be it home theaters, 2-channel rigs or PC workstations. In fact, I have one that I stealthily implemented into my hifi. It stores all my Apple Lossless, WMA Lossless and FLAC files.

Despite its tiny size, this compact drive packs a wallop. It’s a full terabyte of storage, so you’ll have ample space for all your files. The Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port makes it a workhorse. Usability is a breeze. The setup is effortless, because it’s plug & play.

You simply cannot go wrong with this drive if you are in the market for one. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This drive sucks for continuous use. It looks good. It's not that quiet for one, and two, It will unexpectedly unmount itself and just sit there spinning and thinking about nothing. I'm using it to store my 400GB iTunes music library. It just can't handle it. I exchanged the first one I bought thinking it may have been a faulty unit, but the same model replacement it acting the same way. Not worth it. Maybe it would be fine to store movies or photos on, but not continuous music play, from a large library.

I use this drive as a back-up for my music, but I don't think it should be the work horse for any music system.

Perhaps you should look into a NAS (Networked Attached Storage) unit for that purpose. It will be more efficient.

I recommend the Buffalo Linkstation Mini.
