Portable Gaming Gets Smaller

Nintendo DS Lite
The Nintendo DS is the most popular portable system around, with a unique two-screen design & a ton of great games available. The new Nintendo DS Lite goes a little further than the original — it offers smaller size, a more stylish design and an attractive price. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing this thing in every subway car, after school’s back in session.

The redesign slims down the clunky dual-screen portable into something easier to carry, and the difference in form factors is amazing. The DS Lite is 1/3 smaller than the original DS, and weighs considerably less - under half a pound. You can see a comparison between the DS and DS Lite here.

Besides the smaller size and lower weight, the interface has been completely revamped for better gaming. The screens are brighter, so no more squinting or using game lights. The power button’s been moved, to stop accidental shutoffs. The microphone was placed in between the two screens, which should make voice commands in gaming easier. The Wi-Fi light was also moved, so no more missing that blinking LED and wondering about your connection. The buttons and D-pad are much smaller, like the size of the GBA Micro controls. The new GBA Filler Cartridge protects the game slot when no game is loaded. Even the stylus has been remodeled, so that it’s easier to hold.

The Nintendo DS Lite comes in three colors: Polar White, Ice Blue and Enamel Navy. They’re already a sensation in Japan and pre-orders for Europe are through the roof. We expect it to be a major hit in North America, too.
