J&R MusicFest 2006 Spotlight: Lyfe Jennings
If Anthony Hamilton’s vocal chords were removed, the Isley Brother’s sound was modernized, John Legend’s soul was extracted and Jaheim’s gangster approach to R&B was superimposed on a body, what would this real “lyfe” Frankenstein creation be called? Even though that hint kind of gave it away, the answer is of course Lyfe Jennings. If you haven’t heard of him yet, the only possible reason is that you have been living in an underground bomb shelter with some really, really tight doors. His CD invades his personal life and allows the listener to accompany him on his experiential journey through “hood life,” without the constant rapper-like references to bling-bling and other vanities. His self-written lyrics are powerful and his story-like approach to R&B is beyond unique and definitely captivating. So don’t miss the five-time Showtime at the Apollo winner next Friday, August 25th at 5 PM for a live performance
