J&R MusicFest 2006 Spotlight: Lyfe Jennings

Lyfe JenningsIf Anthony Hamilton’s vocal chords were removed, the Isley Brother’s sound was modernized, John Legend’s soul was extracted and Jaheim’s gangster approach to R&B was superimposed on a body, what would this real “lyfe” Frankenstein creation be called? Even though that hint kind of gave it away, the answer is of course Lyfe Jennings. If you haven’t heard of him yet, the only possible reason is that you have been living in an underground bomb shelter with some really, really tight doors. His CD invades his personal life and allows the listener to accompany him on his experiential journey through “hood life,” without the constant rapper-like references to bling-bling and other vanities. His self-written lyrics are powerful and his story-like approach to R&B is beyond unique and definitely captivating. So don’t miss the five-time Showtime at the Apollo winner next Friday, August 25th at 5 PM for a live performance

I just want everybody to know that Lyfe Jennings, the ex-convict and great artist that he is, is very arrogant and conceited. I went to a show he did at the House of Blues in Anaheim on November 10. I really enjoyed the show and wanted to go out and buy both his CDs (old and new). However the next day as I was about to go get the CDs, I bumped into Lyfe who was residing in the same hotel that I was. He was with his bandmates, and no one else was around, so I thougt it was the perfect opportunity to just ask if I could take a picture of him (I didn't want an autograph or to actually be in the picture). When I just got the words excuse me out of my mouth, I was met with a hand up in my face saying I'm busy talking. I had actually waited for their conversation to stall before saying anything, so I was really upset by his actions. No need to say, but I did not buy his CDs and will not buy his CDs. I also informed many of my friends to do the same. I just don't understand how Artists can treat their fans like this. We buy their CDs, pay big money to go to thier concerts, and just try to support them. They end up getting rich, getting big heads, and forgetting who helped to get them where they are. I would have thought that Lyfe would have been more down to earth, from just knowing the little I do know about his background. I was wrong, I do think his music is great, I just don't want to hear it anymore because of the way he dismissed me. I wrote this just to let everyone know how he treated me, so they won't go up to him and get the same treatment. Money changes people, or they may already be that way. Either way, Lyfe is nothing to me anymore!
