Insanity is defined as the condition of being insane. That was clearly the definition of what was going on during our autograph signing with UK band One Direction. It was a good insanity though. Fans came from all over for a chance to see their idols and while the excitement was a tangible thing, the fans were awesome! We had moms and dads escorting their kids too and it certainly made for a moment that none of them will soon forget.
Here is a letter written from J&R Co-CEO Rachelle Friedman regarding the event:
Thank you for the most amazing in store we have ever hosted. All the fans were ecstatic!!!! Fox5 ran a real nice piece on the in-store, capturing the passion of One Direction’s fans. Happily, they also captured what a real record store is all about – not people searching websites for the cheapest price on one song, rather the live aspect of community, young girls bonding and sharing over music that they love. We made thousands of young fans happy and gave each and every one a memory they will never forget. Now that’s what music is all about…
Twitter was abuzz with activity as those waiting on line and those that had already met the band sent rapid-fire messages to their friends.
‘omggg, my legs are sore from standing in line for @onedirection ‘s signing at @JandR BUT it was worth it! ♥♥♥’
‘Can’t believe I met @onedirection :’o at @JandR World’
‘Woohoo! Waiting my turn!’
That’s just a few examples of the types of tweets that were running rampant through the electronic highway. Articles in DNAInfo, Metro, our own photos, and a news feature from Fox5 can only impart a small amount of the joyous intensity that surrounded this magical fan-fueled event.
It wasn’t only the pros that were taking video at the event. Fans snapped pictures with their cameras and took cool videos as they had their copies of ‘Up All Night’ signed by the band. You can see and hear the excitement.
Without a doubt the One Direction Autograph Signing goes down as one of our best events ever.
