Acer’s Aspire is a Desktop PC in Laptop Clothing

Traditionally, laptops were designed with portability in mind, ensuring that they were easy to tote around from place to place. That meant a small frame which meant you’d get a small screen. That’s all well and good for checking your email, but what about watching a movie? You don’t want to watch a movie on an 11 inch screen. As computers are used more and more for watching video, laptops are starting to appear with such purposes in mind.

Take the new Acer Aspire notebook PC, for example. It has a monstrously large 18.4 inch screen, making it plenty big for watching any type of video on it. It has a Blu-ray drive built-in, allowing you to watch high definition movies on Blu-ray discs, and it has an impressive set of tech specs that’ll allow you to play games and edit video, tasks usually reserved for desktop PCs. What you give up with such benefits is the portability issue. At over 9 pounds, it’s not the lightest computer around, and that huge screen makes the size a bigger factor with the Aspire. But in the end, it’s still a heck of a lot more portable than a desktop PC with a separate monitor, making it a good compromise for people who want a laptop that acts like a desktop.
