Among videophiles, The Pioneer Kuro line is considered to be the best commercially available plasma display panels on the market today. With their deep black levels, superb contrast ratios and just an overall impressive picture quality, it’s no surprise that the Kuro is considered to be the top in its class. However, all that quality does not come cheap. They are quite expensive. So where does that leave the videophile who can’t afford a Kuro? Should they just abandon all hope? Are they more affordable options?
The Samsung PN50A550 50” 1080p display is one such option. It is a fantastic display that is sure to please even the most discriminating videophile. Aesthetically, it’s gorgeous. The minimalist, sleek, piano black bezel design evokes modern style and sophistication that will fit in any décor.
In terms of performance, the PN50A550 is also noteworthy. The color accuracy ranks high among the best of all plasmas on the market today, making images lush, vibrant and very detailed. The built in NTSC and ATSC allows the display to receive OTA HD signals with an antennae.
CNET reviewed the set and their findings were favorable. They found the PN50A550 to perform remarkably well. I’m sure anyone looking to pick up a plasma television at a moderate price will be very satisfied with this display.
