All’s Fair in War & Gaming
Hooray for war! Online war, anyway. Guild Wars: Factions has sold 2 million copies worldwide. The original Guild Wars was the big 2005 success story in gaming. It’s a massive-multiplayer online game that’s subscription-free! It’s a whole new way to play MMO games, and it has managed to hold its own against the unstoppable force that is World Of Warcraft. “Factions” is a stand-alone campaign - you don’t need the original Guild Wars to play it, but you can have a lot of fun bringing weapons and items between the two game worlds, to use against unsuspecting enemies.
If online role-playing isn’t your thing, but you still want to hack and slash strategically, you need Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires. You’ll go back in time to ancient China and unite 25 warring nations by conquering them. The combat is intense and realistic, but it isn’t all about swinging a sword. You’ll have to meet with war councils and decide military strategy, give orders and even get enemy officers to switch sides. If you think you’re bad enough to control all of China, now’s your chance to prove it. (Strategy guides are also available HERE.)
Ancient combat can be exciting, but if you’re more into modern warfare you should try out Rogue Trooper. It’s based on a modern classic of British sci-fi; A group of blue-skinned super-soldiers fight for control of an alien world. When they’re massacred, the last survivor takes revenge on the leaders that sent his brothers to their graves. You’ll control the Rogue Trooper as he gives his all to complete his new mission.
