Earlier this week at the Spotlight turns to notebooks event, Steve Jobs referred to blu-ray as a “bag of hurt”. Strange words, considering that Apple is on the board of the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association).
In my opinion, Steve Jobs is only prolonging the inevitable. Apple will have to release a computer with a BD-ROM drive, or they will get left behind. All the other major players are already doing it. Dell, Sony, Lenovo, LG, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Panasonic and several others have computers with BD-ROM drives currently available. It’s only a matter of time before Apple gets with the program.
Nevertheless, there is no Apple product with a BD-ROM drive, so a company named AMEX Digital saw the opening and released a portable super multi drive for the new Macbook line. Looking at the product specs, this thing is killer. They are definitely taking advantage of what many think was a blunder by Apple.
