In today’s AMNY City Living section, they touched upon the resilience and resurgence of commerce in the Financial District after the horrific events of 9/11. J&R was mentioned, and was described as a “labyrinthine electronics emporium with 10 separate shops”. Indeed. 300,000 square footage of electronics is a gadget lover’s dream come true. BB King stopped by J&R yesterday to do a little summer shopping. The Blues legend was gracious enough to chat a bit with fans and even posed for a pic with J&R CEO Rachelle Friedman. He did a bit of shopping for an MP3 player and also picked up some CDs along the way.
BB will be playing the Bethel Woods center in Bethel, NY this Thursday, the 27th and the Capital One Bank Theatre in Westbury on Saturday, the 29th. You can check out more tour dates here. BB is a one of a kind performer and someone you don’t want to miss seeing live.

NARM, the National Association of Recording Merchandisers, held its annual convention last month. The convention is where the music retail industry gathers to network, discuss changes within the industry and also plan for the future. At each convention, awards are handed out to retailers & labels that have excelled in different areas.
This year, J&R won the Marketing Award for their innovative television, print and subway ads.
We here at J&R are saddened by the loss of Michael Jackson. Not only was he a wonderful entertainer that gave so much to the world, he was also a friend.
J&R CEO Rachelle Friedman knew Michael personally and remembered a man that was kindly & shy, yet a smart businessman. She spoke to CBS 2:
“He was very smart, very astute. He went into a whole explanation why he bought all the Beatles songs. He was really a genius, knew the value of things, and was very astute and drove a hard bargain.”

Andrea Bocelli, was seen checking digital recorders with the help of an assistant, at J&R on Park Row.
Bocelli was named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People of 1998, sold-out Madison Square Garden for a recent (June 17th) concert and is one of the most popular opera singers of all time.
The 50-year-old singer, whose success has come in the last decade, has sung duets with a diverse range of performers, from Luciano Pavarotti to Bono. At last year’s Emmys, he teamed up with Josh Groban. Continue Reading »
