Be a Hero

Marvel Ultimate AllianceOne of the reasons we’re getting a Playstation 3 is so we can enjoy the next-generation graphics. That’s going to be a big plus when Marvel: Ultimate Alliance comes out. You can’t go wrong with role-playing strategy in a world where science fiction, the supernatural and all-out adventure rub shoulders. Building on the gameplay of the X-Men Legends series, you’ll pick a 4-man team of superheroes & build up your characters by fighting mutants, aliens, monsters and more. It’s a lot of fun being Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men — but you rarely get to be these characters all at once, or team them up.

Marvel’s been doing a fine job translating their characters into video games; We were huge fans of the Marvel Vs. Capcom series and the hyper-violent Punisher game. Marvel Nemesis: Rise Of The Imperfects gave you a ton of options when it came to being a hero, but Marvel: Ultimate Alliance takes it a step further — bringing in almost every major Marvel character in one massive, well-crafted storyline.

Each version of the game will play slightly differently, depending on the platform. For example, the Wii version won’t offer any online modes, unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, but will still have multiplayer modes. The GBA version only gives you a 3-man team with less characters, but also offers special game modes. The PSP version has special “comic book” missions and exclusive characters like Hawkeye and Captain Marvel. (If you’re not a geek & don’t know them, take our word for it - they’re pretty cool.)

That should be enough superhero action for most people, but if you’re hardcore and can’t get enough of stomping evil, then you can get even more from Justice League: Heroes. When you get tired of being Spider-Man or an X-Man, you can switch gears & be Superman or Batman for a while.
