BioShock is one of the most hotly-anticipated games coming out this year for the PC and Xbox 360. A dark first-person shooter, it takes place in a murky underwater city called Rapture during an alternate version of the 20th century. What makes it different than the 20th century we lived through? Oh, you know, just some horrible genetic engineering mistakes that turn regular citizens into drug-addicted, mutant monsters. The usual.
Featuring some of the most beautiful graphics you’re going to see anywhere, BioShock takes the first-person shooter genre to the next level. There are RPG elements, such as being able to pick and choose which abilities you learn (and what you leave by the wayside), and the pace isn’t as fast and furious as a game such as Unreal Tournament. Instead, it focuses on story and atmosphere, happier to creep you out than to keep you running the entire time. And won’t that be more fun anyways?
