Blue Dragon Finally Brings Quality RPGs to the Xbox 360

Blue Dragon 360

While the Xbox 360 has a huge library of great games, one genre that’s been woefully underrepresented on the next-gen console since its launch has been RPGs. That’s because RPGs are a uniquely Japanese genre, and because of that most developers have focused on making games for consoles made in Japan and played by the Japanese — basically, everything but the Xbox 360. But since the Xbox is doing so well here in the States, Japanese developers have no choice but to make their games available for it, finally erasing the RPG void on the system.

The first major RPG for the Xbox 360 is Blue Dragon. With character design by the minds behind Dragonball Z, the style will be immediately familiar to anyone who has even passing experience with that seminal Japanese show. It centers on a boy named Shu and a bunch of his friends who somehow gain the power of magical shadows that mimic their actions (the blue dragons of the title). With such power, as they say, comes great responsibility. The crew needs to use these shadows to help save the world from doom of some sort. It’s an RPG; you know how it’s going to go. But for RPG fans out there longing for a game on the Xbox, your long wait is finally over.
