Real New Yorkers Know, New Jersey is the country, so it’s no surprise to us that, Jersey rocker, Bon Jovi has made a country music album. Some of us may have missed that he had a hit song on the country charts with the Grammy-winning single Who Says You Can’t Go Home from the album, Have A Nice Day, but we’re glad to learn about it now, in time for the June 19th release of Lost Highway written and recorded in Nashville.
They like Nashville, wanted to make an album there. They believe in “Music City” as a great music community, whether you call the music Country or Rock. They enjoyed collaborated with Nashville writers because they’re all story tellers. “That’s what we did in New Jersey, just tell stories about real people.” says Bon Jovi main song writer and lead guitar player, Richie Sambora. “At this point in our career, we can something different”, Richie assures.
For this album they split production duties half and half between John Shanks, the band’s producer and Dan Huff, one of the best Country producers here in Nashville who also produced Metal band, Megadeath. “He obviously has an wide range”, Richie concludes.
Jon Bon Jovi wrote a haunting balladMake a Memory by himself, in a booth with an acoustic guitar, then took it to the band who valued it’s unique character. All of them knew they had something very special with For Stranger, “I wanted a woman, not a girl”, Jon Bon Jovi says, “and Leann Rimes responded.” Their resulting duet sounds like a hit. “Artistic freedom made this record possible,” says Jon Bon Jovi. “Musical freedom to explore and emotional freedom to express what was in our hearts.”
