Bose Ditches the Subwoofer but Keeps the Bass

Bose unveiled their new flagship computer speakers yesterday, the MusicMonitors. While they might not look like the flashiest speakers in the world, there’s plenty of technology inside to help justify the $400 price. What you’ll first notice about them that sets them apart from other high-end computer speakers is that there are only two of them. Rather than two small speakers with a hulking subwoofer to hide under your desk, the MusicMonitors cram all their bass output into the tiny speakers themselves.
While most two-speaker setups are seriously lacking in the bass department, these are built around Bose’s new “dual opposing internal passive radiator” technology, apparently giving them the punch of speakers many times their size. And while the price is still pretty gasp-inducing for most people, if you’ve got a little extra weight in your wallet that you want to get rid of and have a real hatred for big subwoofers, these will probably be the best choice out there for you when they hit store shelves early next month.
