Cat Power Tackles Some More Covers

Cat Power is an artist known nearly as much for her reimaginings of other people’s songs as much as she is for her original material, having already put out a full album of covers that completely flipped on their heads a number of classic and obscure songs. So I guess the idea is that if something worked once, what’s to say it won’t work twice?

Well, it sure did work twice. Cat Power’s latest album is called Jukebox, and it’s another amazing covers record by the talented songstress. Containing songs that are both classic and obscure, you probably won’t recognize any of them without checking the tracklisting. After all, when Cat Power covers a song she really makes it her own. By adding in so much of herself and her own style, she really breathes new life into these songs and makes it one of the most essential albums of this young new year so far.
