Catch The Buzz - August 2008

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Welcome back to “Catch the Buzz“, your spot for new music. Here you will be able to read about up and coming artists and listen to their music.
This month, our featured artists are Mutlu, Delta Goodrem, Noel Gourdin, and O.A.R.

Mutlu

Mutlu

Born and raised in Philly, Mutlu has a soulful sound, a funky beat and enough earnest optimism to raise the collective human roof. Starting out at open mic nights in Philly, he befriended Blue Note artist Amos Lee and eventually toured with him across the U.S. Cut to present day, recording his first full-length CD LIVIN’ IT with producer T-Bone Wolk, T-Bone makes the introduction to Daryl Hall (a favorite musical influence) who ended up dueting with Mutlu on “See What It Brings”. Talk about a Philly soul connection. Shortly thereafter, other friend/musicians followed suit including Amos Lee, G. Love, Raheem DeVaughn and Sharon Little who all make guest appearances on the record.

Delta Goodrem

Delta Goodrem

Australia’s all-time top-selling female vocalist ever! At 23 Delta Goodrem has already achieved success way beyond her years. Delta is a collection of 12 songs dealing with life, love and relationships, reflecting both her own life and those of people around her. As a gifted songwriter and performer, Delta Goodrem has few peers when it comes to conveying musically the things in life that matter most.

Noel Gourdin

Noel Gourdin

Newcomer Noel Gourdin is prepped to make a major impact on the music world with his powerful debut disc “After My Time”. Influenced by classic soul, as well as the contemporary sounds of r&b and hip-hop, Noel’s music is a seamless blend of each genre. “Listening so so much music from so many eras really helped me put my style together,” explains the gifted singer-songwriter. Armed with commanding, rich vocals and a solid collection of intimate soulful songs, this budding new talent is positioned to make an indelible mark on music’s landscape.

O.A.R.

OAR

Eleven years after the group’s first release, O.A.R. has come to stand for authentic rock music that reflects the collective triumphs and tragedies we all experience in this world: Real people making real music that resounds deeply with their fans.

Prior to entering the recording studio, O.A.R. spent time in a rehearsal space with producer Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More, the Replacements) to run through potential album tracks. Those few weeks galvanized the band as the rest of the world disappeared and time turned backwards. According to lyricist Marc Roberge, “playing the songs together in a room for hours on end reminded us of the days spent in the basement, like we were kids jamming after school every day,”

The unifying experience, plus the realization that the song selections showcased every facet of the band and its musical tastes led to calling the album “All Sides.”

Catch The Buzz - July 2008

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Welcome to “Catch the Buzz“, your spot for new music. Here you will be able to read about up and coming artists and listen to their music.

This month we profile The Flobots, Metro Station, Priscilla Ahn and Molly Venter.

Flobots

Flobots

Universal Republic newcomers Flobots are a rip-roaring 6-member musical fighting force from Denver, CO, who – thanks to their uncompromising debut album Fight With Tools - emerge as the most compelling hip hop collaborative to sign with a major label in 2008. The insightful group blends social justice with a playful disdain for anything status quo…and oh yeah….they’re packing a viola.

Metro Station

Metro Station

Metro Station’s rush to stardom happened the new-fashioned way: MySpace. The band truly is a product of their technological generation, right down to their former mall jobs (they would’ve been dishwashers in the old days). Teenaged founders Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso met on a “rock n’ roll blind date” via their mothers. The first single, “Forever Seventeen”, climbed the MySpace unsigned charts, revealing a dedicated fanbase. A major label deal followed, as did a self-titled album with some cuts produced by Motion City Soundtrack. Metro Station will tour with Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls this summer.
