Mayor Bloomberg to Honor the NY Giants Superbowl Win

Friday, June 6th, 2008

It’s not every year that the NY Giants win a Superbowl, so we are still reveling in the glory of ending the NE Patriots’ perfect season and capping it all off with a Superbowl victory. If you’re around the neighborhood, come on down to the Woolworth building at 233 Broadway at 11am on Tuesday June 10th. Defensive End Justin Tuck will be there, along with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the President of the Downtown Alliance Elizabeth Berger, to unveil a plaque commemorating the historic Giants Superbowl win. For the first time in history, a plaque in the Canyon of Heroes along Broadway will honor the Giants.

Justin Tuck is no stranger to J&R. He’s been here before to celebrate the Giants Superbowl victory and sign autographs for fans. So come on down to the Woolworth building to join in the festivities and perhaps rub a little salt into the wounds of all the Patriots’ fans.

Outside.in brings Neighborhood News and Opinion

Outside.in screenshow

Caroline McCarthy of the social (a Cnet blog), reports that Outside.in, a New York-based site, which is aggregating hyper-local news, blog posts and business listings, launched a discussion forum that attaches locations to the postings.

This allows them to develop along the lines of Yelp and Craigslist bringing together knowledge and opinion of each neighborhood.

I added the news of free J&R Music performance, J.D. Allen on Saturday, May 24th. It appeared at the top of the listings for the Downtown Manhattan zip code of 10038. I will be emailed when their are comments.

Outside.in looks like the beginning of a great new social site. Check it out!

J&R in Bologna Italy

If you live in New York City, chances are you’ve been to J&R at least a few times in your life. The stores, encompassing a full block across the street from City Hall, are retail landmarks. And the red and white logo, in use since the the first store opened in 1971, is iconic to New Yorkers. Over the years the J&R logo has popped up everywhere, from Times Square billboards to ads on the subway. So imagine our surprise when an eagle eyed customer sent in this photo, snapped on a bus shelter in Bologna, Italy, of all places! It’s great to know that when people think of NYC, they also think of J&R.

If you are ever out and about and see a J&R logo in an unexpected place, snap a pic and let us know! We’d love to see what you can come up with.

Transit Madness

Many New Yorkers had a rough commute this morning after a pre-dawn thunderstorm hit the city causing flooding and some localized power outages. Almost all inter-borough train lines experienced long delays and some were unable to run trains at all through the peak hours of the morning commute.

Those able to get to lower Manhattan were forced to use bus service if they needed to get to mid-town. Each bus pulling up to bus stops in front of J&R was immediately filled with large crowds all morning.

Jason Mercado snapped several photos of the unusual scene,

Front Street is Alive & Kicking

Front Street

Looking for one of New York’s newest dining hotspots? We don’t have very far to go. Just a few blocks away, the Downtown Seaport area has been infused with a whole block of great restaurants. The area was home to the smelly fish market for the longest but they’ve packed their bags, uh, and fish and headed to new digs. Since then many new restaurants have moved into the up and coming area. Along Front Street, where the start of the area revitalization has begun, many great restaurants have opened. Whether you’re looking for a drink with friends or a first class gourmet meal this area has it all. We look forward to seeing what this trendy new area has in store for us next.
