Yankee’s First Week Wrap-Up

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Yankees

Well we’re through the first week of the season and the Yankees are 3 and 3. It seems the offense is hitting, but I’m concerned about starting pitching. Carl Pavano, Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina and Kei Igawa all came-up short in their 2007 debuts. Thru the first five games the bullpen pitched more innings than the starters…not a good sign. I’d like to know what the Yankees official status on Wang is, and how long it’s going to be before we can expect to see him pitching?

When we heard last week that Damon might be on the disabled list, I hoped Bernie would get the call from Joe or Cashman…but it’s clear that’s not going to happen! Damon is OK and started last nights game.

I hope we get off A-Rod’s back once-and-for-all! As long as he’s a Yankee, we can only make it worse by booing him all the time! The Yankees would have a really hard time finding a replacement that’s as good is he is. Even when A-Rod has a so-so season, he’s better then the competition! We should get behind him, and hopefully he can get this out of his head and play ball.

The weather has been so cold, it’s like going to a football game, so last nights game at the Metrodome was a welcome relief!

The Yankees placed Hideki Matsui on the 15-day DL on Sunday, one day after the outfielder strained his left hamstring and called up Kevin Thompson as their backup outfielder.

Question of the week?
Which two Yankees ex-pitchers swapped wives?

Results from last week’s poll. “Yes” or “No” answers from RNYK readers on the question of whether they would trade Derek Jeter for Jose Reyes were almost even. 38.9% say “yes”, 33.3% say “no” with 5% saying “maybe”. Since 22.2% chose the fourth option, “Are you off your rocker?” the tie was broken. Adding these responses to the “no” category gives Derek a 55.5% vote of confidence. We hope feels the love.

NYC Honors Spider-Man

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

NYC Honors SpiderMan

Spider-Man is being honored by the city of New York. The week prior to Spider-Man 3’s release has been officially declared Spider-Man Week by City Hall. His hometown has been the setting for four decades of classic adventures, including two hit movies and games on everything from the DS to the Xbox 360. His popularity has made him an unofficial goodwill ambassador & mascot for New York. The city’s going to pay back the nerdy kid from Forest Hills who taught generations that “with great power comes great responsibility” with these events.

Yankee’s Pre-Season & Opening Day

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Cory Lidle

The Yankees will open their 2007 season with a ceremonial tribute to the late Cory Lidle, who died in a plane crash last Oct. 11 in New York City. Lidle’s wife, and son are scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitches before the opening day game against the Devil Rays on April 2.

Yankees

The future of the Yankees management is in question after George Steinbrenner’s daughter Jennifer Swindal files for divorce.

Bobby Murcer’s MRI-taken last week at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center-was clear of any tumor growth.

Mientkiewicz has gotten off to a rocky start at the plate in spring training and still is batting only .171. He’s been hitting better, and hopes to contribute offensively, though the Yankees signed him more for his glove.

Mr. Gore Goes (Back) to Washington

Friday, March 23rd, 2007
J&R
Al Gore with J&R CEO Rachelle Friedman & J&R Executive VP Jason Friedman

You wouldn’t know it based on the hailstorm we were hit with last Friday, but global warming is real, and it’s just getting worse. Just ask Al Gore. He went and harassed Congress this week, testifying before a couple of committees on how our government’s inaction on climate change is dooming our planet to many years of unseasonable warmth, the closure of many ski areas, and an increase in the sales of tank tops and short shorts. Clearly, this is an epidemic of epic proportion that needs addressing ASAP.

Of course, if you’ve seen An Inconvenient Truth you know that what’s at stake is a lot higher than just having to see sweaty guys in tiny shorts on the subway, although that’s mighty unpleasant. No, we’re talking stuff like rising sea levels, mass extinctions, dangerously low potable water levels, and nasty stuff like that. So we salute you, Mr. Gore, for taking the fight to Congress and making sure no one forgets about the importance of environmental responsibility. We’re with you.
