Christoph Eschenbach Master Musican Live @ J&R

Christoph Eschenbach

Real New Yorkers who love classical music (and the most real of us do) have a rare opportunity to meet a master conductor/pianist when Christoph Eschenbach appears at J&R Music World, Tuesday, May 8th at 12:30pm to autograph copies of his latest CD release, featuring Tchaikovsky: Symphony no 4 which he conducted with Philadelphia Orchestra. The recording also contains Tchaikovsky’s Les saisons with Eschenbach performing on solo piano. Release on the Odine lable, the disc is a hybrid Super Audio CD, playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.

One of the finest pianists and conductors of the late twentieth century Christoph Eschenbach became music director of the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg during the 1998-1999 season. In 2003, he became music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Born in 1940 in Breslau, Germany (today Wroclaw, Poland) and ophaned during WWII, Eschenbach studied piano and composition.

He began recording in 1964, he learned the art of conducting from George Szell and his mentor of nearly 25 years, Herbert von Karajan. He has made more than 80 recordings both as piano soloist, conductor, or both, has appeared in several television documentaries, and made many concert broadcasts for different European, Japanese and U.S. networks. Since 2000, Eschenbach has been the Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris.

He is credited with helping and supporting talented young musicians in their career development including soprano Renée Fleming, pianists Tzimon Barto and Lang Lang, and soprano Marisol Montalvo.

At age 67, Christoph Eschenbach is perhaps at the height of his powers. If you can take a downtown lunch break, by all means, come meet this master musican.
