I’m not what you would call a health nut, but I do understand the importance of regular exercise. Like many, I’ve found it difficult to stay active given my job requires me to sit in front of a computer all day.
I recently read an article describing the health benefits of walking. It mentioned that walking can be incorporated into everyday tasks and recommended taking 10,000 steps per day to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. I thought to myself, I can handle that, but how the heck would anyone keep track of how many steps they took in any one day?
The answer was simple – with a pedometer. I’ve been using the Omron HJ-113 GO-smart Pocket Pedometer. It is accurate and easy to use. Not only does the Omron HJ-113 count the steps you take throughout the day, it translates that count into miles, calories and fat grams burned. You can personalize the settings of the HJ-113 to reflect the length of your own stride. This ensures an accurate calculation of miles travelled.
The Omron HJ-113 is also small so nobody will notice that you’re wearing it. When I first started using the model, I was surprised to find that I only took about 5,000 steps per day. Since then, I’ve started walking to the bus and during lunch and now walk about 11,000 to 12,000 steps per day. Knowing exactly how many steps I had taken one day pushed me to do more the next. The extra walking has definitely helped increase my energy level, but I would have never known how low my step count was or been able to track my progress without the Omron HJ-113 .
To be honest, it’s been fun. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to track their activity outside the gym.
