Danny Aiello Stops by J&R

Danny Aiello at J&R

Actor/performer Danny Aiello stopped by J&R today to perform a couple numbers from his new CD, Live From Atlantic City and to sign autographs for fans.

A few days ago, Danny was nice enough to answer a few questions for us. We hope you enjoy.

J&R:
How did you get involved in acting?

Danny Aiello: Purely by accident. I lost my job as a union president for Greyhound bus company and got a job as a bouncer / MC for the improvisation comedy club on west 44th St in NYC. From there my career began to take shape. I was asked if I wanted to be in an off off off bway show; having never studied, I of course said yes! That is how it began.

J&R:
Were you always interested in singing?

DA: Yes! I was always interested in singing; however, I never had the guts to do it early in my career. It was my mother who often tried to get me to sing professionally..to no avail.

J&R:
What style of music best describes your latest CD?

DA: Classic standards! Sung the way I like to hear them (understanding every word).

J&R:
Who are some of your musical influences?

DA: Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Frankie Laine, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Ray, Vic Damone, The Four Ace’s. It was Bobby Darin who musically influenced me the most.

In between tour dates and filming, Danny is working on another studio album with a rapper named Hassan. The album entitled Bridges brings together standards with rap and is scheduled for release later this year. You can check out the video for the first single “Besame Mucho” on YouTube or get more information on dannyaiello.com.
