“Definitive 200″ Day Press Conference at J&R

Definitive 200

J&R will be hosting a press conference for the NARM Definitive 200 Monday March 12, 1 pm, at the J&R Music Store, 23 Park Row, NYC. It’s already been announced and discussed here, but this is the official New York unveiling. The Definitive 200 is a mix of older and newer best-sellers, judged on a combination of sales figures and musical influence. The Honorable Charles Rangle (US Congressman, NY 15th District) will be presiding over the event. Come by a bit earlier as hip-hop legend Chuck D of Public Enemy will be on hand to sign autographs at 12:30 pm. See more info.

The usual suspects are all on the Definitive 200 list, from The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s and Hotel California, to Pink Floyd’s The Wall and Born In The USA. There are some surprises on the list, though. For example, Radiohead took #111 with OK Computer. It also has Nas’ Illmatic and the White Stripes’ White Blood Cells took #178. What really surprised us was seeing the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou. There’s plenty of room for argument there — feel free to discuss it at the press conference Monday. It’s being held at 23 Park Row at 1pm.
