There’s a new leap that’s moving wireless computer use to greater range, speed and throughput. It’s called 802.11n, a new wireless standard. The D-Link DWA-131 adapts your notebook PC to make use of this advanced technology, where available. 802.11n has been designed to dramatically increase the effective throughput of 802.11 devices. To increase the effective throughput of an 802.11 device requires more than providing a higher bit rate. 802.11n makes dramatic changes to the basic frame format that is used by 802.11 devices to communicate with each other. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is the heart of 802.11n allowing wireless networks to reach data rates of 600 Mbps. 802.11n uses both 20-MHz and 40-MHz channels. When using 40-MHz channels, 802.11n increases the number of subcarriers available to 108. This provides a maximum data rate of 135 Mbps, 270 Mbps, 405 Mbps, and 540 Mbps for one through four transmitters, respectively. Similarly, there are eight data rates provided for each transmitter, 32 in total, for the 40-MHz channel. Moving to 802.11n means the likelihood of achieving wired performance without wires. D-Link DWA-131 Wireless N Nano USB Adapter provides superior wireless signal for your computer compared to the existing wireless 802.11g technology. This Wireless N adapter is ideal for day-to-day activities such as transferring files, browsing the Internet, and downloading music. D-Link Wireless N products use smart Antenna technology to transmit multiple streams of data allowing you to receive wireless signals from the farthest corners of your home. Furthermore, D-Link Wireless N technology extends your wireless range, while maintaining compatibility with all your existing 802.11b/g wireless routers and access points. The Quick Setup Wizard provides an easy way to setup your USB adapter and the Wireless Manager (included with this product) helps keep track of all your most frequently accessed networks.
This Wireless N Nano USB Adapter uses draft 802.11n technology to maximize the speed and range of your wireless signal to significantly outperform 802.11g devices. The DWA-131 makes use of your home environment by bouncing multiple wireless signals off the walls and ceilings to work around obstructions and help eliminate dead spots.
The D-Link Nano is neat and compact. It is fully backward compatible to 802.11g but at slower speeds. For maximum advantage of the greater speed and range of 802.11n, upgrade your router to 802.11n as well.
