The hardcore rap style of DMX was built on the artist’s uncanny ability to at once channel the visceral elements of the streets in one verse coupled with soul searching lyrics in the next. Born Earl Simmons of Baltimore, Maryland, his difficult early life on the streets of Yonkers, New York would form the foundation from which his rap style sprung.
His career began as a DJ then quickly progressed to that of rapper. Always looking to diversify, DMX tried his hand at acting and has appeared in over a dozen movies, television shows, and videos to date. Along with his acting, the artist has also written and performed more than 30 soundtracks for motion pictures and television.
