Taking your car to the shop is never fun. Beyond the fact that you’re basically guaranteed to drop a hefty sum of money you weren’t planning on, there’s always that feeling in the back of your mind that you’re getting screwed over. After all, if you aren’t a car person and the mechanic tells you that some part that you’ve never heard of needs replacing, who are you to argue?
Well, take some of the power out of the greasemonkey’s hands with CarMD. It elaborates on your car’s infuriatingly mystifying “check engine” light by plugging into your car’s computer and figuring out just why that light is on. Then you plug it into your computer and get a full diagnosis. That way when your mechanic tells you the springhopper needs replacing and it’ll cost $1,500, you can tell him you know it just needs a new spark plug and to make it snappy. Oh, taking the power back… it feels so, so good.
