A Nintendo system just isn’t a Nintendo system without a Mario game. While pretty much every Nintendo console since its inception has launched with a top-notch entry in the Mario franchise, the Wii has been strangely lacking in the Italian plumber department. Thank the lord, that’s about to change.
Super Paper Mario is on its way, and it’s sure to give you all the pipe-travelling, shell-hopping action you so crave. It’s familiar in some ways — big shocker, the princess gets kidnapped for the 500th time — but there’s a new villain and a new perspective at play here. Yes, there’s 3D levels, but in a strange 2D design. It’s all very trippy and hard to describe, but the graphics are a mix between quirky and striking. It looks to be one of the most unique and intriguing entries in the Mario series yet, and it should at least hold you over until Super Mario Galaxy comes out later this year and blows everyone’s mind.
