Drowsy Chaperone awakens at J&R

The Drowsy Chaperone at J&R

As part of J&R Music and Computer World’s Broadway on Park Row series, cast members of The Drowsy Chaperone appeared at the store at 23 Park Row for a performance and autograph signing.

Winner of 5 Tony Awards in 2006, the musical used a unique concept. A modern day musical theatre addict known simply as “Man in Chair” appears on stage and starts talking to the audience of one of his favorite show albums. He drops the needle on his favorite LP - the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the musical magically bursts to life on stage. The funny, glitzy, and corny production had great song and dance numbers. The dynamic between the “Man in Chair” and what appeared on stage lent an exciting twist to the show.

The show is currently at the Marquis Theater, where it has played 600 performances since it opened in 2006. Sutton Foster was one of the original cast members. She is currently starring in Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein.

The original cast album of The Drowsy Chaperone is available at J&R on the second floor at 23 Park Row. J&R also has a Ticketmaster window where you can purchase tickets to the Broadway show.
