FAT TUESDAY!!
Mardi Gras in New York
It’s Mardi Gras, folks! That’s never been a big deal here in New York, but we’ve decided to celebrate a little anyway because we want to support New Orleans as it recovers from Katrina. Here’s a few suggestions if you want to do the same.
If you wanna do it quick and easy, go the fast food route: Hit the new Popeye’s in Midtown and get yourself a po’ boy. Another good, quick choice is Clinton Street Baking — they’re hosting pancake month, which is a good way to pack on some pounds this fat Tuesday.
The Acme Bar and Grill between Lafayette and Broadway offers shucked oysters, catfish fingers, and seafood gumbo — all with tons of hot different hot sauces available, of course. Over at Mara’s Homemade, a zydeco band will be playing while the gator jambalaya and $5 beers flow freely. The Odea Bar & Lounge on Mulberry St. will recreate the feel of Bourbon St. with Cajun food & acid-jazz. If you bring old Mardi Gras beads you’ll get a free drink.
