Final Fantasy VII was one of the greatest video games of all time, bringing gaming out of the 2D world it had existed in with the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis, and plopping it down in the 3D landscape of the Playstation. With graphics that were revolutionary for their time and an epic storyline that has yet to be bettered to this day, it left a lasting impression on everyone who took up a controller to play it.
So what better basis is there for a totally dorky Japanese animated movie? Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children starts where the video game left off, featuring some of its most beloved characters such as Cloud and Sephiroth, but then goes and creates a completely new storyline. That’s nothing new for the Final Fantasy series, a series of games that’s approaching number 13 that is made up of 13 completely distinct games with unique stories and characters. It’s a great way to relive the memories for people who love the game and also acts as a great intro to the general world of Final Fantasy for the uninitiated.
