Gamers Are Universal

Ever wonder what gamers are playing overseas? It can be hard to track down stats for other countries, but that’s changing. Thanks to a company called ELSPA, we can get a close look at what British gamers are about.

Union JackThe #1 game in the UK right now is Take 2’s Prey, which we mentioned in yesterday’s gamer news. We’ve also mentioned our admiration for Take 2’s work in the past, and Prey made that admiration grow a bit more. If this keeps up, we might start sending them fan letters. New Super Mario Bros. dropped to second place in Britannia, which is a shame. Playing that game is like being a kid again & playing Nintendo for the first time. Pirates Of The Carbbean: Dead Man’s Chest took 3rd, riding the popularity of the hit movie. Check it out if you haven’t — the movie’s OK, but Johnny Depp is really funny in it & he rarely does comedy. If you’re a Depp fan, the novelty of him doing it for laughs is deifnitely worth your time.

Other popular games “across the pond” are Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Hitman: Blood Money, FIFA World Cup Germany 2006, The Sims 2 and another movie tie-in, Over The Hedge. It looks like British tastes are very similar to American ones, so if you’re ever in the UK you’ll at least have a conversation starter when you’re among other gamers.
