Gateway Announces Upscaling ExtremeHD Monitor

Gateway

Gateway unveiled a monster of a new monitor today, the ExtremeHD 1600. This 30-inch beast has a built-in upscaler with HQV Realta technology. What’s that mean? Well, it means that you can plug in any source, be it a DVD player, a computer, or an HD signal, and it’ll upscale it to the great 2560×1600 resolution screen automatically without needing to run it through a computer with a souped-up video card.

It might just be the only screen you ever need, especially if you live in an apartment where having a separate computer monitor and HDTV would just add to the clutter. It’s got six types of video inputs, all of which can be used simultaneously: VGA, HDMI, DVI, component, composite, and S-video. It eve acts as a 6-port USB hub, which is a nice touch. At $1,700, it’ll be one of the pricier 30-inch displays out there, but the versatility of the ExtremeHD Monitor will make it worth every penny.
