Hi Bob,

I recently came across your post on this blog. I am sorry to hear that you had a problem installing Windy31.

However your information is incorrect. You do not have to uninstall your anti-virus or your DVD support in order to install Windy31.

At no time in our user manual does it suggest that you uninstall or unprotect your computer. Are you referring to the prompts that ask you allow Windy31 to be allowed beyond the firewall protection? If so, that is designed for your protection, so that no unauthorized devices may be to be installed without your knowledge.

Windy31 is an auto install program that is designed to turn your computer into a portable LAN or Router. It also serves as an access point for additional users should you have access to the internet.

All that is required is for you to turn your computer on and then once you are up and running plug Windy31 into any open USB port. Installation is automatic. There might be prompts for you to answer thru the install process. Please read each prompt carefully and understand what is being asked.

Windy31 allows you to set up a portable 802.11g wireless network anywhere or at any time. You can support up to 32 additional users on this portable network and it is encryptable so that unauthorized users are not allowed on.

Should you need any further support please feel free to call our staffed technical support number at 866-877-9638 from 9 AM to 5 PM EST or e-mail us at support@synetusa.com anytime.

Thank you from the SYNET and Windy31 support team.

According to their technical support, in order to USE, not just install the device, you must first remove all firewalls, anti-virus and DVD support (especially NERO) from your computer. Re-installing that software after the device is installed, I was told, will disable it. So the Windy 31 is only useful if you want to surf the net totally unprotected.

I am returning mine for a refund.
