God of War Collection Arrives on the PS3

God of War burst unto the scene like a juggernaut in early 2005. It was by far the best action game on the PS2. Kratos, the protagonist in the game is a Spartan warrior. He was a loyal servant of Ares, the God of war. Ares bestowed a godly weapon called the blades of chaos on Kratos. These deadly, swinging blades were wielded to his forearms. Over the course of time, Kratos committed massacres on the command of Ares. Unbeknown to Kratos, he killed his family on one of his murderous rampages. Grief stricken, his pain turned to rage when he found out that Ares had tricked him into killing his family. As you can guess by now, the tale is one of revenge. Kratos goes on a journey to destroy Ares, and usurp the title of the God of war.

In 2007, God of War II was released and garnered even more critical acclaim than it’s predecessor. Kratos made his triumphant return as the new God of war. This time with the blades of Athena. As a God, Kratos can only find pleasure in plunder and destruction. He aids the armies of Sparta in conquering many parts of Greece. This angers the Gods. Zeus strips him of all his power, rendering him a mere mortal. Kratos dies from a battle with the Colossus of Rhodes. Kratos promises Zeus that he will make him pay for stripping him of his powers. Kratos was to spend his afterlife in the depths of Hades in torment for his dastardly deeds, but was rescued by the Goddess Gaia. She grants him the magical horse Pegagus to help him change his fate and seek out revenge on Zeus. I’ll stop there.

In terms of action adventure games, I can’t think of anytime more epic than the God of War series. The only downside was that these were PS2 games, and in a time of gorgeous HD titles, these games looked a bit funky. With the God of War Collection, you don’t have to deal with crappy visuals. The games are now playable on the PS3 in 720p. This is the best these games have looked and will ever look. Getting both these games at the paltry msrp of $39.99 is the deal of the century.
