Goodbye, RAZR. Hello, RAZR2.

Motorola Razr 2

Motorola announced the successor to their hugely-popular RAZR phone today. Guess what it’s called. It’s not that hard, I swear. Give up? The RAZR2. Yeah, real creative, I know. So what warranted the sequel?

First of all, there’s a nice, big, bright screen on the front of it. And it’s not your ordinary screen; nope, it’s a touchscreen with tactile feedback, which means it vibrates when you press down, making it feel more like a button. It’s also much beefier than its predecessor, sporting a tough hinge that can survive 100,000 flips, an exterior that can survive drops, and a heft that won’t make you feel like you’re going to snap it in half by sticking it in the pocket of some tight jeans.

Other improvements include an overhauled operating system, 2GB of on-board memory, and a faster processor. It’s still, however, in basically the same form factor as the last RAZR. Depending on how you view that ubiquitous phone that could be seen as either a positive or a negative, but in any case these improvements look pretty good to me.
