Most likely you’re going to be inside in air conditioning most of the time, but remember babies feel cold easier than we do. If you’re walking around in shorts and tank top in your house, your baby should be wearing more.
If you do take the baby outside for walks, make sure the stroller is well ventilated and has a good sun canopy. The American Academy of Pediatrics says, “Keep babies younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight. Find shade under a tree, umbrella, or the stroller canopy.”
Sunscreen:
For babies younger than 6 months – the American Academy of Pediatrics now says you can use sunscreen on small areas of the body, such as the face and the backs of the hands, if protective clothing and shade are not available.
Warning signs:
According to What to Expect.com, seek medical help ASAP if your newborn suddenly develops these symptoms:
• Hot, dry skin
• Very high fever
• Diarrhea
• Agitation
• Lethargy
• Convulsions
• Loss of consciousness
