There are loads of first-person shooters out there, and they range from the hyper-realistic, such as Call of Duty 4, to the more fantastic, science-fiction variety, such as Halo 3. It’s become somewhat rare for a game to really do something new in the genre, for better or for worse, but Playstation 3 owners might just get a game that challenges their assumptions with the upcoming Haze.
What makes Haze stand out is a drug called Nectar. When taken by the Mantel troops (one of which your character will start out as), your entire view of the game is changed. Things seem sunny and bright, you can aim better, and you can see explosions before they happen. You might think that this would make you a supersoldier, but when on Nectar you’re unable to see dead bodies, unable to differentiate between friend and foe, and everything looks a bit blurry. To the rebels you’re fighting against (and, later, for), this provides ample opportunity to play dead and OD you on Nectar, confusing you into killing your own teammates.
Sound unique? It is. It should be exciting to see what this does to the set-in-stone first person shooter genre.
