Hurricane Sandy and J&R

We hope that you are all safe in the wake of the devastation brought by Hurricane Sandy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our friends up and down the coast.

As many of you know, we have been a cornerstone of Lower Manhattan for the past 40 years. Our Park Row stores sit Downtown between the East and Hudson Rivers in an area that has been heavily affected by the flooding. As a result, some of our operations have been negatively impacted. We’d just like to let you know that we are doing our best under trying conditions to return to service as normal.

Update 11/03/12 at 10:45 — J&R’s Park Row Stores are open.

Here’s a quick rundown:

Park Row Stores – Power has been restored to Lower Manhattan and our stores are open.

Web Operations – Our website JR.com is up and running. As usual, you can order the latest in electronics, computers, housewares, music, movies, games and children’s gear there. You may experience some slight delays and for that we apologize.

Phone Orders – Our toll free operators are available for orders. Please call 800.806.1115.

Shipping – Our warehouses in Queens are back online. We are processing your orders as quickly and diligently as possible. As usual, members of the “J&R Rewards” Loyalty program will receive Free Shipping on all orders over $49.

We’ll continue to keep you up to speed on our blog. Please check here for the latest updates.

    I’ve been shopping at J&R since buying Jazz record at 111 Nassau St in 1975 and have always like their products and service. I always recommend them to family, friends, and acquaintances. However I now give J&R a thumbs up and a high Five for communicating with their customers through email what is going on with the store during these recovering times and how customers can continue getting products they need. My bank didn’t even do thet and they have my money. Kudos to J&R Superstore!!!

    I hope your “store pickup”/Door 4, and the rest of underground will be re-usable without too much hassle! I’ve been your customer since started working at the WTC when it opened in mid-1970-ties. J&R was the FIRST business to re-open downtown after the 9/11/2001 WTC attack, which gave me cancer. Still I expect to live a long life being your customer,. Thank you for being an anchor Downtown – I am sure you will reopen as soon as feasible. Until then I’ll shop via your website.Keep the heaters on sale !

    I am happy to support J&R during this trying time, J&R has been the most reliable store on the internet for many many years and will always be my first pick for anything they sell. They are not greedy like most of these Computer/Electronic stores and sell quality products. I have never had to return any item purchased here and being disabled makes returns a pain in my azz. Love You J&R, Don’t ever change.

    I know this will sound trivial to those living through the aftermath of this disaster, but for the sake of future college student deadlines, please clarify which location DVDs are shipped from. I placed an order, on 10/31/12, through your website because it stated all orders were being shipped and that the retail store closure was only affecting pick up orders. I placed an eighty dollar order and paid for second-day UPS so I would have the ONE DVD that I needed by Monday, November 5. When I checked the shipping status, yesterday, nothing had been shipped. I called for status today after discovering still nothing had been shipped to be told by Giselle that ALL DVDs are shipped from the retail store. She said the store just reopened today and she would put a “rush” on my order and I should have it by Thursday or Friday. I ordered this DVD, from your company, because I couldn’t find it locally and I had to have it for a research paper. If it arrives, by Friday, instead of having a week and a half to analyze it I will have three days. Like I said this will sound trivial to survivors of Superstorm Sandy and for that I apologize but to a college student sometimes these things can feel like a natural disaster when you have done all the preparation and planning that you can and then it all goes awry.
