We here at J&R are saddened by the loss of Michael Jackson. Not only was he a wonderful entertainer that gave so much to the world, he was also a friend.
J&R CEO Rachelle Friedman knew Michael personally and remembered a man that was kindly & shy, yet a smart businessman. She spoke to CBS 2:
“He was very smart, very astute. He went into a whole explanation why he bought all the Beatles songs. He was really a genius, knew the value of things, and was very astute and drove a hard bargain.”
Rachelle also didn’t believe any of the rumors that swirled around Jackson later in his career.
“He was like a beloved uncle to them, he didn’t do anything inappropriate,” Friedman said. “In fact, they were picking out DVDs and some of them were violent. He said, ‘No, these aren’t the kind of DVDs I want you bringing home.’”
Down in the music store, fans are still pouring in to purchase Jackson CDs, vinyl, whatever they can get their hands on. The Daily News even reported on the line of fans that stretched down the block before the store even opened! Rachelle says the store hasn’t seen anything like this since John Lennon passed away in 1980.
NY1 (video at link) stopped by to speak to some fans that were shopping for Jackson items. One woman had this to say about her purchase: “Have to have this, getting this for my husband and myself, my children. If they don’t know about him, they will.”
