I won’t bore you with details about the story of King Kong. Everyone knows what King Kong is about. It’s the ginormous ape that kicks ass and takes names, until he’s captured for the amusement by the man. Don’t you just hate when the man keeps you down?
The sole HD format King Kong was released in was HD DVD, since Universal was HD DVD exclusive at the time. This was in the midst of the format battle with blu-ray. King Kong on HD DVD was demo worthy material. The picture quality was really something else. Audio quality was good, but much to the chagrin of audiophiles everywhere, the disc did not contain lossless audio of any kind. The lossy track was good, but we knew it could have been so much better.
Well, now that blu-ray won the format war, Universal is out to make it right it seems. They brought over the gorgeous HD transfer to blu-ray, but this time around they included a bombastic DTS-HD MA 5.1 track. It’s phenomenal.
