Aside from the astronomical numbers in all sales categories of the Lord of the Rings press kit (I just didn’t know that the trilogy is second only to the Bible in worldwide book sales), the bullet points describing the new Battle for Middle Earth II XBOX game somehow transfixed me. I want to play this game when it comes out next thursday (July 6). There’s a clean slate element to commanding all the races of Middle-earth, a world I can build (one we’ve never seen before, they claim). I can also campaign a ‘War in the North’ in single-player mode, and it has a whole new story. They compare war strategizing, in the Living World Map function, to the game of “Risk,” which should be enough to wet any whistle in the post-dork workforce. I plan on enjoying it sometime after the learning curve lets me in, but I was always slow with world-domination.
