Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg Kicks Off “Shop For Class” @ J&R

The Citywide Retail Promotion to Benefit New York City’s Public School Libraries Runs From October 3 Through October 19

Today, before noon, Mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg, accompanied by Department of Education, Chancellor Joel Klein and The Fund for Public Schools Vice-Chair, Caroline Kennedy, crossed Park Row from City Hall to J&R Music World to kick-off the fourth annual “Shop for Class retail promotion by purchasing two copies of Bruce Springsteen’s new CD release, Magic, “For my daughters,” he explained.

“The Shop for Class program has been invaluable to our schools over the last four years,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “Our mission is to provide the best possible education to all the 1.1 million New York City public school students, and programs like this help provide the materials - books, furniture, and technology - needed to reach this goal.”

When you shop at participating retailers October 3­ - 19, a portion of the proceeds will benefit New York City public school libraries through The Fund for Public Schools. American Express will donate $1 for every transaction made by Cardmembers at participating merchants, up to $20,000.
