Monster Creates An Inspirational Headphone
I have to admit up front that I have never owned a serious set of headphones. My music listening is usually reserved to instrumentals (movie scores) and a select few vocal artists. In this arena I have always relied on the guidance of family and friends that happen to be dedicated audiophiles. So a good friend of mine loaned me a set of Monster’s new Noise Cancelling Headphones aptly dubbed Inspiration. I was hesitant to return them to her after my listening experience.
The Inspirations are — from a design standpoint — elegant and clean. They’re also very lightweight, which surprised me because they appear as if they would be heavy. The rectangular ear phones attracted my attention as these are normally rounded. Again to my surprise the ‘racetrack’ style inner cushions fit the ears perfectly and the soft leather pads themselves were extremely comfortable. I had no problems wearing these for long stretches at a time. The adjustable headband assured that the overhead fit was snug yet comfortable.
Of course, even the best fitting headphones still have to pass their ultimate test: sound quality. I immediately decided to push the envelope and play John Williams’ epic score from Superman: The Movie. I played it without the active noise cancelling feature, trying to hear the difference between it and the passive cancelling. Even the passive cancelling was very good. However, with the active noise cancelling running, it was an entirely different sound experience. Every instrument in the various pieces seemed to pop and I was immersed in the music and not the sound around me. I was confident though that should I run out of power my listening experience would still be excellent.
The Inspirations come with three different mini-plug cables: ControlTalk for Apple, ControlTalk Universal, and a Straight Audio cable, assuring talk and control features with iPod, iPad, iPhone, Android tablets, and other portable devices. In addition to this feature, the Inspiration’s headbands are interchangeable. There are over twenty styles to choose from including several sporting flags from around the globe.
