MuVo & Zen? - J&R Express @ Macy’s

In our never-ending quest for good MP3 players that aren’t the iPod, we direct your attention to two alternatives. There are a number of good non-iPod players on the market, but they can be hard to pick out. Here’s our recommendations for a good MP3 player at a good price — if you want to enjoy digital media without being one of the other White Headphone People, here are two good bets. Both models are available at J&R Express @ Macy’s.
Creative Labs makes some fine audio equipment, and their players follow suit. For example, the Creative MuVo TX is tiny, but it packs a lot of functions into its tiny body. The MuVo TX plays your MP3s (plus WMA files, unlike iPods) and lets you tune into FM radio. It also lets you record voice memos and stores up to 1GB - enough for roughly 200-250 songs. You’re getting a lot of functionality & a decent amount of memory at a steal — the MuVo TX is only sixty dollars.
If you need more storage space but similar functions, Creative also has the Zen Sleek Digital Photo Player. Like its little cousin, the Zen Sleek Digital Player plays MP3s and WMAs (with or without DRM), plus it’s compatible with Microsoft’s PlaysForSure music store. The 20GB of memory means you can store up to 5,000 MP3s and even more WMA files, plus thousands of digital photos. You can preview those photos (or browse album art) on the 1.7″ screen. It’s a great deal, too — all those functions plus 20GB of memory for about a hundred and sixty dollars. The best you get from iPod at that price is the 4GB Nano, which offers 16GB less storage and a slightly smaller screen — 1.7″ on the Zen vs. 1.5″ on the iPod Nano.
Two good deals in one good Midtown location. Can’t go wrong, so pick one up before they’re gone.
