The new Arcade Fire album, Neon Bible, should be this week’s most hyped album. The band made a splash by mixing traditional & classical themes with rock. Neon Bible combines choirs and strings with guitars and drums for a rousing, beautiful album wuth rock and roll punch. Notorious BIG’s Greatest Hits should also get a a lot of buzz. Biggie’s biggest rhymes are all collected here, from “Big Poppa” and “Hynotized” to “Who Shot Ya.” It’s a good overview of a rapper who influenced everyone who came after him.
California’s dance-punk masters !!! just released Myth Takes. They deliver on the big beats and guitar energy, for a full party sound. A mellower party vibe is made by Air’s latest, Pocket Symphony. It’s laid back music with Asian instrumentation & vocals by Jarvis Cocker of Pulp & Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy. Maybe you need some music that gets you up and moving — if so, the Stomp The Yard soundtrack is perfect for you.
The Beastie Boys‘ DJ, Money Mark, just dropped a new solo record. Brand New By Tomorrow shows off the DJ skills that back up one of the world’s biggest hip-hop acts. People should check out the emo-pop of Relient K’s Five Score And Seven Years Ago, or the down-home country rock of The Search by Son Volt. You can get really country with The Calling by Mary Chapin Carpenter, or get that classy vibe with Wynton Marsalis‘ From The Plantation To The Penitentiary.
