Nintendo Continues Innovating with Wii Fit

Wii Fit

With its innovative, motion-sensing remote, Nintendo turned the unassuming Wii into a runaway smash hit, making it more popular than both the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. With the intuitive nature of the controller and the games, it opened gaming up to a much wider audience who doesn’t have the interest or patience for the overly-complicated and violent fare on the other two major consoles. And now Nintendo is looking to repeat the magic with its upcoming Wii Fit with Wii Balance Board accessory.

The Wii Fit is a little board that wirelessly connects to your Wii. It then uses a series of games to help you exercise while you play. You can do things as simple as learn yoga or do basic exercises on it, or you can play more complicated games, such as blocking soccer balls from in front of a goal. It can also help you track your exercises progress by tracking your weight and BMI over time as you use it. Sure, it’s not going to replace a gym membership, but for people who don’t exercise at all it could be the first step to becoming active. Will Nintendo strike gold again with this innovative game? Time will tell.
