Once Soundtrack Stands on Its Own

Once is a wonderful indie movie that came out in theatres this summer that chronicles the ups and downs of a young Irish couple through the lens of the songs that they play together. A new type of musical, it has music as its backbone without its characters randomly jumping into song in the middle of the street. It’s a concept that would fall to pieces if the music wasn’t excellent, and luckily the music holds up beautifully.
That’s thanks to the protagonists, including Glen Hansard who’s the lead singer of The Frames and Marketa Irglova, who he’s recorded with as The Swell Season. The songs are wonderful, an essential listen and purchase to anyone who’s seen the movie and a great way to prep yourself for the film if you haven’t seen it. That’s why you owe it to yourself to grab the Once Soundtrack. In addition to being one of the best soundtracks of the year, it’s also one of the best albums of the year. It’s rare when a great film and a great album can go hand in hand so well, so be sure to not miss this one while you have the chance.
