Onkyo Makes a Receiver for a Digital Age

I am planning to build a 5.1 system (to start with) with this one, keeping in mind that later I would upgrade. Which speaker set do you recommend for this. I am looking for a sub 500 speaker system.

techmine, personally I would rather build a 5.1 system piece meal, and slowly add additional speakers if finances are an issue. It will probably work out to be cheaper since you won't have to upgrade in the not too distant future. 2 front speakers first, then a center channel, then a sub later, then finally with the surrounds. It does not have to be all at once.

Nonetheless, if you do insist of having it all ASAP, then the Polk RM705 HTIB is within your budget.

Does anyone know if this model supports multi-room? I read a post that Zone 2 can only be used for AM/FM feed but wasn't sure that was accurate. I want to run my home entertainment system and then have a couple speakers in the back yard on Zone 2 to listen to tv and/or music selections (simultaneous and separately).

Thanks! If anyone has a suggestion for another make/model that won't break my wallet, please post away.

cmechalske, a better option for multi-zone use that isn't much more expensive than the onkyo is the Denon avr-1909

IMO, it is an all around better receiver and performer in every aspect. From multi-room capabilities, to full 1080p upscaling.
