Our Top Five Electronics Gifts of 2011

Share

Okay folks we’re down to crunch time. Christmas Day is fast approaching and if you haven’t finished those lists then you better step on it! With that in mind I’m going to give you what I believe are the top five gifts to give this season. The order isn’t a factor here just the gear that’s on it. I guarantee you any of these is sure to please.

1 – Apple iPod – Take your pick here people the iTouch, the Classic, the Nano, and the Shuffle. It doesn’t matter which one of these bad boys you pick, there is an iPod for everyone. Starting as low as $50, these versatile multimedia players are the top sellers in MP3 players at Christmas time several years running. From kids to grandparents, this gift is one that any of them will appreciate.

2 – Tablets – Let’s be honest with ourselves, we would give one of these to ourselves if we could. These devices in their most basic form allow us to read books and use apps. When you move into the big leagues, they become portable entertainment centers allowing the viewing of movies, listening to music, and even emulating musical instruments. This category includes the Kindle Fire, the iPad 2, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Any of these would make an awesome gift, even as a gift from You to You.

3 – Digital Camera – A few years ago the Digital Camera was the absolute King of Christmas. It has been dethroned yet still manages to hold its own among the iPods and Tablets. Whether you’re looking for a nice little Point and Shoot or a full blown Digital SLR, there are plenty of excellent choices available. The Canon Rebel T3i Kit stands out for me. The Rebel is an easy to use camera with many impressive features. At a hefty 12MP and with FULL HD video capability, they’ll never miss a shot still or live. If you’re looking for the Point and Shoot variety, yup you guessed it, Canon again with the ELPH300 HS. Small yet powerful, this one is a compact camera lover’s dream. If you know what that special someone is looking for in a camera, either of these will fit the bill.

4 – Laptop – There are so many laptop computers out there that making a choice as to which one to buy might seem impossible. It isn’t really. If you play games you want a Windows-based unit. If you don’t play games then you want an Apple. The Asus GS73 Gaming laptop would make a great choice for the PC lover while the Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-inch is without a doubt the top dog of all laptops. About the only drawback to these is that they don’t come cheaply. If you’re thinking about it the person in mind must be worth it.

5 – Blu-ray Player – DVD Players are not yet out of fashion but we’re getting kind of close. The Blu-ray player represents the latest and greatest in home entertainment technology and none more so than the Panasonic DMPBDT210. This relatively inexpensive unit will allow Blu-ray playback in FULL HD 3D, FULL HD 2D, and 2D to 3D upconversion. The fun doesn’t stop there though, with built in Wi-Fi and the Viera Connect function, you make Skype Video Calls and have access to thousands of On Demand TV Shows and Movies via HuluPlus, Amazon Video, Netflix and more. It also backward compatible so you can play all of the current DVDs you own. This one has lots of bang for the buck.

6 – Video Game Console – Okay I know I said only five but I love video games and would have been tossed from the Gamer’s Church if I didn’t add this to the list. At the moment there are three consoles of note, Microsoft’s XBOX 360, Sony’s Playstation 3, and Nintendo’s Wii. Any one of these systems has its merits and with the others following the Wii and adding ways to physically interact with the system, they all force you to get off your butt. With that said, I would have to go with the XBOX 360 with Kinect. Unlike the PS3 and the Wii, interacting with the system requires no additional controllers. With plenty of games for both kids and adults, the 360 is a crowd pleaser.

There you have it my five plus the bonus. Gee there are only 11 days left! Don’t stand around go shop!
