Flying on the success of their recent Palm Pre, Palm Incorporated isn’t resting one bit. They’re taking serious aim at Blackberry and iPhone. Palm has unveiled a new smartphone, the Pixi, a compact mobile phone, targeted toward a more affordable range that anyone can use and make one’s own.

The Palm Pixi is a cellphone designed at offering faster, more intuitive and personal communication in a compact and customizable design. Using Palm’s intuitive and simple web-based operating system, the Pixi strikingly thin design, a visible full keyboard and fashionable options that make this phone your own. Palm Pixi lets you express yourself in amazingly useful ways. It’s scheduled to be available from Sprint in time for the approaching holiday season.

The phone’s full QWERTY keyboard puts it all at your fingertips, and the multi-touch screen lets you move back and forth between open applications using natural gestures. The unique removable back cover is rubberized, making it scratch-resistant, slip-resistant and durable.

Complementing the phone’s already rich Facebook integration with the contacts, phone, calendar and photo applications, a new Facebook application will be available with Palm Pixi so you can see and comment on all the latest news from your friends, as well as easily update your status.

You can get access Yahoo! Calendar and IM, access to your LinkedIn contacts, use Google Talk and AIM Instant Messenger. Visit real websites, not just the mobile versions. Palm Pixi gives you the experience you expect, and lets you scroll and zoom using natural, intuitive gestures.

Palm Pixi keeps up with the things you’re doing, even when you’re doing them at the same time. Say you’re typing a message when a call comes in. Answer it, and go right back to the message. Then visit a website while you play some music. You can still return to that original message. Pixi keeps multiple activities open and lets you flip back and forth between them.

Browse the App Catalog from your phone and download apps right over the air. Palm Services automatically backs up your phone so you have a copy of your important data. You can also remotely erase your data if your phone is lost or stolen. And you get software updates that make it easy to stay up to date with the latest enhancements.

Reeling from their losses of the almost defunct PDA market, Palm offers fresh, new approaches to mobile communication, fun, and useful ability. Palm’s Web-OS isn’t just user-friendly, it’s inviting. So even if you aren’t home for the holidays, the Palm Pixi will keep you close.
