Despite the glowing reviews, and a fresh rating of over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, Grindhouse was not exactly a commercial success. Perhaps, sitting through two movies was too long for some. Not me however. That was part of the experience. I loved every second of it, including the fake trailers between the features.
Thankfully, these films have finally made it to blu-ray. I’m happy for that, but I can’t help but feel a little slighted. They made them into two separate discs, sans the fake intermission trailers to appease the people who evidently have short attention spans, or don’t know what a Grindhouse feature is. I would have preferred to have had both movies on one disc as the full Grindhouse feature, complete with the fake trailers in between. That is the entire point of a “Grindhouse” movie, but I digress, i’m just happy to see it on blu-ray.
Planet Terror was directed by Robert Rodriquez, and Death Proof was directed by Quentin Tarantino. I was glad to see Kill Bill join the blu-ray ranks back in September. Now the countdown is on for Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, the remaining two Tarantino flicks not on blu-ray.
